Reconnaissance planes allowed for Allies to gain intelligence upon enemy positions. It also showed the state of enemy weaponry and what formations or defense set ups the enemies were using. For example before D-day they used reconnaissance planes to find exact landing zones for paratroopers and positions on enemy defenses in Normandy. Reconnaissance allows the allies to gain an advantage of whats expected when they attack their enemy and it allows them to throughly plan their attack
