well, they had the risk of getting caved in or losing air in the mine also they had to be very quiet so the mines would not collapse.

Answer:

miners face large risks such as explosions from bombs that were set off to open craters and expose more material. they also face the risk of the whole place coming down. since they know what was there it was hard for them to know what would happen.
