2. Why is the cell cycle regulated?

  • First, if the cell cycle were not regulated, cells could constantly undergo cell division.
  • Second, internal regulation of the cell cycle is necessary to signal passage from one phase to the next at appropriate times.

Answer:

So that cells don't reproduce deformed, unhealthily mutated, or cancerous cells. Also, regulation ensures all parts of DNA (etc) are replicated correctly.
