Most people could not read.
Most people didn't have the time to read. There wasn't enough ink and paper.

Answer:

Few books were available in the middle ages because there was no such thing as printing back then and all books were handwritten,

Step-by-step explanation:

causing them to cost more because of the amount of labor being put forth to create them. Writing books by hand doesn't really sound like a fun job lol so there were limited amounts of books made because there were so few people writing them
