The length of a rectangle is 5yd longer than its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 54yd , find its length and width.

L=16*2=32

W=11*2=22

P=32+22=54

P=54

L = w + 5

P = 2(L+w) = 42

L + w = 21

w+5 + w = 21

2w + 5 = 21

2w = 16

w = 8 ft

L = w+5 = 13 ft.

Rectangle is 13 ft by 8 ft

Area = 13(8) = 104 ft2

Check: P = 2(L+w) = 2(13+8) = 2(21) = 42 ft
