Criticizing others usually is NOT effective in helping them change because it wont make them any "better" it would just hurt them. They might even become aggressive. They can even become depressed. And criticizing others can also effect you. It could effect you by making you a bitter person.

When you criticize someone, you put them in the spotlight. Most people don't take criticism right, so they might think of all their flaws, rather than the problem then. Most people become self conscious as well, due to criticism. Because of this, people might think that they aren't good enough of that they'll never be perfect. Criticizing only adds fuel to the fire.
