The easier way is to multiply 45 by 1.20:

1.20 represents a 120%. This is because 45 refrigerators is 100% of last month, and Simon repaired 20% more, so 100 + 20 = 120.

The next way would be to multiply 45 by 0.20, and then add it to 45.

(45)(0.20) = 9

45 + 9 = 54

Both of the ways result in 54. So, Simon repaired 54 refrigerators this month.
