Athlete’s foot is a fungus that attacks the area between the toes and sometimes the sole of the foot, causing redness, irritation, and a scaly look to the skin. It may even invade the area under the toenails. The fungus thrives in damp, warm places, such as shower rooms, swimming pools, and gymnasiums.
