Harappan culture, the first phase of urbanization in the subcontinent, was famous for town planning. The grid pattern was used for streets and a well-organised drainage pattern was used. Mud and fire-baked bricks were used in most of the Harappan cities. Mohenjodaro, a 200-hectare site in Sindh province of Pakistan, was one of the earliest excavated sites. The 'Great bath' seems to have been the most important place in the city, while the 'granary' was the largest building.
