Explanation:

Area of the base = 8^2 = 64 .

There are 4 triangular sides.

To find the area of 1 side we need to know the slant height s of the triangle, This can be found using the Pythagoras Theorem

s^2 = 4^2 + 12^2 = 160

s = √160

So the area of 1 side = 1/2 * base * s

= 1/2 * 8 * √160

and

area of 4 sides

= 4 * 1/2 * 8 * √160

= 202.386

So the Surface area of the pyramid

= 64 + 202.386

= 266.386
