Secretary of state John Hay called the war with spain a "Splendid little war" What could he meant by that

Answer: Ok so in the war between Spain and the US, Spain got beat horribly. Mr. Hay could of meant that it was an easy win since the US didn't have many casualties this is partially due to the fact that the US Navy was vastly superior to Spain's Navy back then and I believe that it still is.
