Why are days longer in summer than in winter?

As the Earth circles the Sun during the year, half of the Earth get pretty much daylight than the other portion of the Earth. In the late spring months, the northern portion of the Earth, where we live, inclines towards the Sun. This implies we get more daylight, making the days longer.
