Matter can exist in three different states, solid, liquid, and gas, based on the way the atoms and molecules are arranged inside them.

Step-by-step explanation:

Solid- the atoms are packed together and aren't moving, so nothing can go through them.

Liquid- the atoms are spread out slightly and moving a little, so that's why it's pretty hard to run through the water and yet it's hard to run on top of the water.

Gas- the atoms are spread far away and moving rapidly, that's how we are able to walk without bumping into any of the gases around us, but as we get higher in elevation the atoms are further spaced out and it becomes harder to breathe.
