Are cable wires made of thermoplastic? If so why?

(This is just a doubt that just came into my head)

Cable wires are usually made of of thermoplastics because, current passing through the wire has heating effects as well, due to collision of electrons in the conducting wire. so to avoid the melting of normal wire which can break the circuit, Thermoplastics are used, that doesn't have much effect of heat on them.
