Are the forces on an object in motion balanced? Why or why not?

Answer:

An object's motion can be changed by unbalanced forces. Balanced forces do not change the motion of an object. The motion of an object will not change if the forces pushing or pulling the object are balanced. An object that is sitting still will stay still if the forces acting on it are balanced.

There is no unbalanced force acting upon the book and thus the book maintains its state of motion. When all the forces acting upon an object balance each other, the object will be at equilibrium; it will not accelerate. ... Since these two forces are of equal magnitude and in opposite directions, they balance each other.
