Plug in the x and y values

4(1/2)^2 -3(-5)

Apply the exponent so (1/2)^2 or 1/2 • 1/2 which is equal to 1/4

Now you have 4(1/4) -3(-5)

Multiply them out:

4(1/4)=1

-3(-5)=15 [remember a negative times a negative equals a positive]

So now your equation is 1-15
