Why is Elizabeth so worthless in Seven deadly sins?

In the manga she has a lot more character development rather than the anime. I personally think that the crying and the "oh I don't even notice when someone sexually offends me" is a bit over the top. The writers could have made Elizabeth less dumb but that's my personal opinion.
