Pythagorean Theorem

x^2 + 5^2 = 12^2

x^2 +25 = 144

x^2 = 119

x = √199 or 10.9087121146

Answer:

use Pythagoras theorem

{a}^(2) + {b}^(2) = {c}^(2) \\ \\ a = 5 \\ b = (required \: lenth) \\ c = 12 \\ \\ { {5}^(2) } + {b}^(2) = {12}^(2) \\ {b}^(2) = {12}^(2) - {5}^(2) \\ b = √(119) \\ b = 10.90871211
