Jonas runs a pet store that sells guinea pigs. He wants to ensure he has more than 1 pound of dry food for every five guinea pigs he has in the store. He currently has 8 pounds of dry food and wants to know how many guinea pigs can he have in the store. Write and solve an inequality to solve this problem. What is the solution to the inequality? x greater-than-or-equal-to 40 x less-than-or-equal-to 40 x greater-than-or-equal-to 8 x less-than-or-equal-to 8

Answer:

x < 40

Explanation:

1 lbs for 5 pigs

The ratio is 1 lbs/ 5 pigs

Let x be the number of pigs

Take the ratio and multiply by the number of pigs, this has to be less than the amount of food in the stor

x * 1/5 < 8

Multiply each side by 5

x * 1/5 * 5 < 8*5

x < 40
