Do the sentences 1) and 2) mean the same or different? does 2nd sentence sound weird?

1) Advertising makes children feel inadequate unless they buy the advertised products.
2) Advertising makes children feel inadequate unless they should buy the advertised products.

the sentences in my opinion have different meaning .And the use of should in the 2nd sentence makes it a little bit complicated and weird yes.
