and the number of boys is 3 more than the number of girls.
How many boys and girls are there in the class, respectively?

so what i would do is 41/2 =20.5 (we round up becaue its people) 21

so if there are 3 more boys then we have 23 boys and 21 -3(to make it equal in half) 18 girls
