Why did the U.S. create the duck and cover video? Why were Americans so afraid of the Soviet Union during the 1950s?

They created a duck and cover video for everyone's protection. The americans believed that at any given moment there was a chance that the atomic bomb would go off killing millions. So instead of waiting for it to happen they decided to try to spread awareness. The americans were afraid of the soviet union because they had the ability to use the bomb at any given moment.

The americans were afraid of the soviet union because of the atomic bomb, The soviet union did not involve America in the creation of the atomic bomb and America knew that there was a chance that it could be used against them.
