Answer:

Several things regulate the temperature but the 2 biggest factors are the atmosphere and oceans. Water is able to absorb and hold a lot of energy (heat from the sun) and give it off slowly, thus keeping the earth warm at night and moving warm water to cold regions, like the poles.
