5 + 3.70d = 42
Subtract 5 from both sides.
5 + 3.70 = 42
-5 -5
____________
3.70d = 37
Divide both sides by 3.70
3.70d = 37
_____ ___

d= 10
Check: substitute 10 for d
5 + 3.70(10) = 42 ??
5 + 37 = 42 ??
