In this system: 2x + 8y = 6 -5x - 20y = -15, how many solutions are there?

There are no solutions

Explanation:

Calling the 1st equation a vector u and the second a vector v, it is easy to see that they are scalar multiples of each other and would therefore have no solutions.

If you are doing simple algebra, you would find the slope and compare the two; if they have the same slope, then there is no solution.
