5x² - 12x + 9 = 0

Method 1

Factors that add to = b (-12) and multiply to = ac (45): 3 and -15

5x² + 3x - 15x + 9 = 0

5x(x - 3) + 3(x + 3) = 0

(x-3) and (x+3) do not match !!!!

Method 2 - Quadratic Formula

-b ± √(b² - 4ac)/2a

12 ± √((-12)² - 4(5)(9))/2(5)

12 ± √((-12)² - 4(5)(9))/2(5)

12 ± √(144 - 180)/10

12 ± √-36/10

(12 ± 6i)/10

(6 ± 3i)/5
