Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of lower concentration of solute,to a region of higher concentration of solute.

In this case,the electrolyte concentration in the cell is higher than that of it's extracellular environment.as a result, osmosis occurs and water moves into the cell through the cell membrane.

In an animal cell,as water moves in ,the cell swell and eventually it bursts.

In a plant cell,as water enters it,it becomes turgid but doesn't burst due to the stiff cellulose cell wall.
