Teresa needs to buy plastic forks. Brand A has a box of 72 forks for $3.89. Brand B has a box of 96 forks for $6.62. Find the unit price for each brand. Then state which brand is the better buy based on the unit price. Round your answers to the nearest cent.

Brand A is better buy as it cheaper than Brand B.

Explanation:

Given,

For Brand A:

Number of forks = 72

Cost = $3.89

For Brand B:

Number of forks = 96

Cost = $6.62

We have to find the unit rate for each brand.

For Brand A:

72 forks = $3.89

1 fork = Unit rate for Brand A

By Using Unitary method we get;

Unit rate for Brand A =
(3.89)/(72)=\$0.054\approx 5 cents

Again For Brand B:

96 forks = $6.62

1 fork = Unit rate for Brand B

By Using Unitary method we get;

Unit rate for Brand B =
(6.62)/(96)=\$0.068\approx 7 cents

From Above we can say that;

Unit rate of Brand A is less than Unit rate of Brand B.

Hence Brand A is better buy as it cheaper than Brand B.
