usually, fot he endings in present of the verbs in -er, you take ff the -er, and add the endings : -e / -es / -e / -ons / ez/ -ent

BUT if you take off the -e at the 1st person plural => nous mangons.... you have the sound g as in "goat" and not "j" as in "jug" that's why you have to add an -e => -eons
