Why did city states form as the Maya population grew

Because villages began to trade with one another so that leads into the trade being really helpful which supported the larger population so many villages began to increase. they also had lots of agriculture, complex trade networks, innovative architecture, and sophisticated religion. In this time, the population of Maya people entered the millions.
