With positive ions these will have fewer electrons than protons, making them positive. With negative ions these will have more electrons than protons, making them negative. Lithium atom has electron arrangement 2,1 and the Li+ ion will be 2. So 7/3 Li+ has 3 protons, 4 neutrons and 2 electrons
