you plug in the (x,y) from the graph into the solution, once you solve the solution if those two numbers equal your -4, then it is a solution

Replace x in y in the equation and see if it is true:

5x + 3y = -4

5(-5) + 3(7) = -25 + 21 = -4

(-5,7) is a solution

5(1) + 3(-3) = 5 + -9 = -4

(1,-3) is a solution
