To resolve a conflict, instead confer with a reasonable adult (teacher, parent, etc...) to monitor the discussion. But, if you don't want to be a "snitch" then rather than throwing punches and most likely getting yourself hurt, and resulting in you and the other person in trouble, you should use your communication skills. Here are some strategies of what I mean by that:
-Show that your actively listening to the person's opinion and not shrugging it off/not even considering it. This will make them feel like they matter and their opinion is valued.

-After they are done with their argument, try your best to kindly transition into yours. Ex: "Well, that's a good point, but..."

-Worst case: Pretend to listen to their argument and agree to avoid any trouble.
