Speaking from personal experience, New York still has buildings similar to tenements in the Gilded Age. Granted, they have air conditioning, plumbing, etc. However, many buildings are very cramped and there’s often three families to a rented building on each floor. We also use many inventions from the Gilded Age such as the telephone, trains, etc.
