Mr. Santiago can buy light fixtures in packages of 12 and light bulbs in packages of 9. He bought the fewest number of light fixtures and light bulbs so that there is exactly one bulb per fixture with none left over.

How many packages of light fixtures and how many packages of light bulbs did Mr. Santiago buy?

Find out LCM of 9,12

  • LCM=2(2)(3)(3)=36

Now

No of light packages=36/12=3

No of light bulbs=36/4=9

Mr. Santiago can buy light fixtures in packages of 12 and light bulbs in packages-example-1

List the multiples of both 12 and 9:

12, 24, 36, 48, 60

9, 18, 27, 36, 45

The lowest common multiple is 36.

This will make the fixtures and bulbs equal.

This means they bought 3 packages of light figures 3 x 12 = 36)

And bought 4 packages of bulbs ( 4 x 9 = 36)
