y = 2x

if 12 is subtracted from the larger number the result is 7 more than the smaller number :


y-12 = 7+x

To solve for x ;

Substitute 2x for y in the second equation


2x-12=7+x\\2x-x=7+12\\x = 19

To solve for y


If\: y=2x ,\\y = 2* 19\\\\y= 38
