Answer: First of all, add up the expressions with the same variables and the numbers.

7a-8-12a+4

=7a-12a-8+4

=-5a-4

or

=-(5a+4)

Both of them can be counted ans equivalent expression since all three of them works the same. Only the expression(way of writing) seems different.
