how neurotransmitters carry nerve impulses across the synaptic cleft?

Neurotransmitters move between the axon and the dendrite of the following neuron through the synapse. Neurotransmitters bind to the dendrite's membrane. The nerve impulse can go through the receiving neuron because of the binding.
