Gandhi's nonviolent movement worked because Gandhi wanted to be treated equally like his protesters. Document C provides a reflection from Gandhi when he was in Johannesburg in 1908. Gandhi at the time was working as a lawyer and studying law. In the reflection Gandhi found out that he protesters were arrested and sentenced for three months.
