I believe that Proctor's death proves to the town that witchcraft does not really exist. One of the major themes in this piece is the destructive power of lies. Proctor helps breaks through this destructive power by helping the town see the truth. In this entire story, there is the lie of witchcraft being present, mostly constructed by Abigail who uses it to save her own skin. It causes many deaths of innocent people. Anyway, Proctor's death stops the lies and most importantly gives voice to the other theme of conformity, or rather non-conformity. It shows how he is not willing to be part of the monstrosity that is the lies about witchcraft.
