Why was John Brown's raid on harpers ferry a failure

Answer:

Even though he successfully communicated the uprising that the conflict of slavery brought up, all he caused was violence. What he should have done is spoken with the townspeople of Harper`s Ferry to try and free the slaves, instead of causing a war and many casualties.
