Am I crazy or did we always press shift two to do the at sign? Because I swear I remember it used to be command two not shift.

In order to use the at sign, your supposed to press Shift + 2 which will give you the at symbol. Sometimes, what you remembered was because either your computer has switched languages, or just a bug which could be fixed after an update.
