He set up Confucian academies throughout the country and made Confucianism the state philosophy. His campaigns usually succeeded in expanding the empire. He kept the Xiongnu out and established Silk Road trade by sending Zhang Qian to the Yuezhi in 139 BC. he also vastly increased the authority of the Han dynasty and and extended Chinese influence abroad
