Let “a” be the light post height

Let “b” be the length of the shadow

Let “c” be the distance from the top of the light post to the end of the light post’s shadow.

Then:

(a X a) + (b X b) = c X c

The Pythagorean Theorem will work pretty well here:

(4 X 4) + (5 X 5) = 16 + 25 = 41

The square root of 41 is: 6.4023

So, about 6.4 ft from the top of the post to the end of the shadow
