= 5x-4<4+4x

= 5x-4-4x<4

=5x-4x<4+4

= x<4+4

= x < 8

first distribute the 4 into the parenthesis on the right side of the expression. next collect like terms, so move the x's to the left side and the two fours to the other side. simplify both sides to find the answer.
