Florence had an oligarchy as its form of governance throughout the Renaissance. This is correct since there was no king, prince, throughout the 1400s, implying that it was not a monarchy. Instead, I know for a fact that an oligarchy is governed by a few affluent families, which is true in the case of Florence.
