Without shapes you cant put your colors anywhere for example here’s a painting I’m finishing up (it’s nezuko from demon slayer in my art style) there are many different shapes on her her bamboo has to do with cylinders rectangle and tiny squares and her torso or kimono has many different squares and somewhat like trapezoids
