The Spanish explorers came to the Americas because Spain's objectives for colonization were to locate mineral wealth, to also convert all of the Indians to the religion of Christianity, and counter French and English efforts. The Spanish colonization attempt was a success. First, an armed force suppressed the natives and organized forts, or what you call “presidios”, for future protection purposes. Hope this helped!
