The length of a chord is 22 cm and that chord is 5 cm from the center of the circle. What is the length of the diameter ?

You can use the Pythagorean theorem to solve this, my realising that the 5cm distance of the chord represends one side of a right triangle, half the chord's length is the other side, and the hypotenuse of the two is the circle's radius. With that we can say:

r = √(11² + 5²)

r = √(121 + 25)

r = √146

Now we can double that to get the diameter:

r = 2√146

r ≈ 24.2
