What is the theory of mercantilism? How did it influence European colonization efforts in Africa, North America, and South America? (in your own words please, pleas dont copy and paste :)

Mercantilism is basically when a country sends an explorer to claim land and then the country uses the claimed land to make money in order to send home. I hope this makes sense please comment me if you need further clarification
